Afternoon Treat

Do you have a back music playing through your life? Do you have a soundtrack of your own story on earth? Is it funky? Vivid? Gloomy? Romantic? Tragic? Depressive? Joyful?

I sometimes think that a music is playing in my head most of the time. Although I like Balkan music and rhythm, the music playing in my head is rather keeping little hints of the blues.

Just like "Moonlight" piano sonata by Beethoven...

It was playing inside me all day long and look what I just did:

Started with a shot of raki with a bowl of rocket salad leftover after the fish party last night... Nothing goes better than a piece of good white cheese with raki! That was such a treat!

Later on I couldn't keep my hands off mommy's Turkish style pumpkin dessert with a cup of green mango tea. Pumpkin dessert is not so difficult to make. All you need is to find the best pumpkin, and level the amount of sugar well. Then you just cook it, that's all. You can garnish it with pounded hazelnuts or walnuts. Ahh and if you have a scoop of kaymak (Turkish clotted cream) then just go all the way! lol

I was washing the dishes when the door bell rang. That was our neighbour, Füsun. She brought a small bowl of ashure which was still warm. Yummy! But I didn't eat of course lol By the way do you remember that I mentioned about different kinds of ashure garnishing? Here her ashure is a sample of another style: nuts, pomegranate and cloves which is also something I've never seen added on top of ashure before, either. Ohh the scent! Cloves gave a very aromatic touch to ashure. I liked it.

I hadn't eaten anything disturbing, but I felt the lack of caffein as a digestive item. A cup of coffee? Absolutely yes! A cup of Turkish coffee (the coffee cup you see in the photo is older than 45 years)... with a very thin piece of dark chocolate... Classical music... and a book... Lord of the Flies... If you haven't read it yet, it's not too late. It may sound like a children's book, but I simply say no it isn't a children's book. It makes you think about the wildest hidden specialities of humankind.

To watch the romance of a trio by François Truffaut would be the peak of the afternoon, however there aren't always just happy ends, right? A batch of laundry was waiting me to be ironed! Between you and me but I DO hate ironing! It's a bit ok with colourful clothes but just a pain in the neck when there are lots of shirts to be ironed!

When the duty was done all I needed was some juicy, cold orange wedges to finish the afternoon treat! What about you? How was your afternoon? Or is it still going on?

If I'd select music definitely for my existence vivid, joyful with sparkling colors but as happens in life, sometimes the lights go off for a while!

In the past I often enjoyed a cup of Turkish coffee with my grandmother….. delicious.

I keep finding myself coming back to your blog. I like food bloggers who use food to talk about life, art, politics! I have enjoyed reading this.

But I finally contacted you because of the Turkey tours you mentioned. We are discussing a Turkey trip in May! GREG www.sippitysup.com

Hi CakeItaly :) You're welcome!

Hello Greg!

I think you should have contacted before, coz this is injustice that I didn't know about your blog :)

Wish I had a better English to share more about life and politics beside food! :)

In my opinion May is the best month to travel in Turkey (as long as you're not planning a full-sunbathing holiday). I love Istanbul best in May, and also Black Sea region is suitable to go in May.

If you're planning a trip to Black Sea region of Turkey, I can help for sure. Also I have contacts about other alternatives for other places to help. And of course you're welcome to Istanbul anytime :)

I'm not a professional guide but good at showing hospitality lol

When you need information/or help/or anything pls send me an e-mail to

banu@balbanu.com

Cheers!
